Northern Plains Digital Initiatives Higher Education Consortium (UND/Mellon Foundation)

The University of North Dakota (UND) and the North Dakota Tribal College System (NDTCS) have partnered to enhance humanities education focused on preserving Indigenous languages, histories, and cultural practices. The consortium aims to build capacity for Indigenous students and faculty to study, preserve, and promote these cultural elements. Their approach includes developing digital archives and training faculty, staff, and students at NDTCS and UND to maintain these archives. With $1 million over three years, the goals are to strengthen humanities education, increase the ability to gather oral histories, and expand scholarly activities in culturally sensitive digital collections.
